Yesterday I rhapsodised about playing "Take Off!" with Danny. We had a great time, and afterwards he asked if we could play Scrabble. I told him we would have to play Scrabble another day. So, today he dusts off (literally) the Scrabble game and we get it set up and proceed to play. He started well, but I got a few good words....he got stuck with one point letters....and it all started to go pear shaped, as his luck turned bad. It was painful. The tears flowed freely and I tried to subtly get less points, without seeming to. Unfortunately he had quit even trying. I had to practically force him to finish the game.
I think we won't play it again too soon.

We're playing Uno tonight. Dad has managed to throw the round in Jonah's favor.
Speak softly, back away slowly and all will be well.
That's the roll of the dice, kid. Better luck next time. Yada yada.
Sometimes playing games is exhausting.
