Name That Tune

I hate it when I get a fragment of a song in my head and I can't quite place it. That happened to me this morning - and it's been bugging me all day. All day.

Before church I went through most of the hymnbook looking for it...with just the following to go by:

"Alpha and Omega he,_______(Lord or king??)of all creation, dum ti dum ti dum ti dum ti dum ti dum ti a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-ation. "

I remembered the melody for that part - so I sang it (with sound effects instead of the missing words) to: our choir director, organist, choir pianist, and two or three other people. The only clue I was able to glean was that one person (the organist) was pretty sure it was a Christmas song, and it isn't in the hymnbook.

Hmmm. Not much to go by. I ran it by Marcy - she came up with nothing...then I finally broke down and searched the internet. Bingo.

Now, if only someone on Youtube sang it well. (By well I mean so that you could understand the words). I would post the lyrics - but every version I find is different. Even the name of the song varies. "Unto Us a Son is Born", "Unto Us is Born a Son", "Unto Us a Child is Born"....

...no wonder it was hard to find.

Dancing in the kitchen

While sitting in the hospital 4 weeks ago waiting to get my wrist set I remembered that my ipod was in my purse. I even had a headphone splitter and Steve had his own headphones. We both giggled at the lyrics to Danke Schoen.

It's nice to see that I am making progress in healing. I have my ipod plugged into my speakers in the kitchen...when Danke Shoen started playing this morning Steve and I started dancing. That wouldn't have happened a week ago.

So now we dance.

A Brand New Year

I sometimes use my ipod for seminary. I especially like to use it for prelude music. I do have all the hymns downloaded from the lds.org website - but I don't use them that often for the opening song. First of all, they play them a little (or a lot) slower than I like to have them sung, and second of all, it's 6am and my voice really doesn't want to go above an A or possibly B flat - and since I'm often singing a solo, it sounds a little better if I do it a little lower than it is written. ANYHOW, I am always looking for free music to play for seminary, and I found some today. I installed a widget for the music in my sidebar - so if anyone else wants to download - there it is.

The site I got it from is called "A Brand New Year" and basically it's a site that the church put together for youth. The resources send the user to places that are already in lds.org, but sometimes a little bit of a bother to find. This makes it easy. I think I may make up a little take home handout for my seminary kids so that they can find it. I will definitely be introducing Daniel and Alex to it so that when they want to get on the computer on Sunday we have one more acceptable resource.

Seminary is done for the week - and better yet, I only have one lesson to prepare for next week.

Tomorrow is Saturday and I need to catch up with my housework - especially mopping - since the grandkids were all here for hours on Wednesday. But that's for tomorrow.

Musical Trip Down Memory Lane

One Bad Apple.

What do all of these have in common? Yeah, sure, one or all of the Osmond family had a hit with the songs. But besides that?

I was surprised to hear all those and more during the Pioneer Day Concert. I recorded it yesterday - figuring that it would be nice Sunday afternoon spiritual entertainment. Yes, it was entertaining (Donny was looking pretty hot for a 50 year old grandfather)...but not quite as Sunday appropriate as I was expecting. I forget that the Mormon Tab. choir sings other types of music.

Bet you didn't know that I am merely 2 days older that Marie Osmond. And having Mormon boy Donny singing all about puppy love that was only one year older than us was every MIA Maids dream...I suspect that Marie was similarly a poster girl for teachers quorum boys....just ask Steve.
