We had an 8 track tape player in our car in the 70's. Probably the only time technology made electronics bigger rather than smaller. Cassette tapes had been around for quite a while. They were smaller, and easy to record on. I don't think you could record on 8 tracks.

The one advantage that 8 track tapes had, is that you could switch between tracks. I don't think you could fast forward.

I had at least one John Denver album on 8 track. I also had Pink Floyd "Dark Side of the Moon" and America's Greatest Hits.

The coolest thing was punching the buttons to change songs.

Funny how technology changes.
