Wishful Thinking

Steve has been hinting at me lately that I need a 'birthday wish list'.  Yes, my birthday is coming up soon...but I'm fairly stymied.   I told him he could fall back on an Amazon gift card...but he's not too thrilled about that.  So here goes:
My Birthday Wish List
  • A Pony. Oh, wait, I mean, I DON'T want a pony.
  • Amazon gift card.  Really honey, I wouldn't be insulted.
  • Kindle??? I'm not convinced I need one - so you'd have to do some fast talking. Very fast talking.
  • a weekend getaway (I've got a 3 day weekend this week).
  • i-tunes gift card.  I've got a few songs I'd like to buy.
  • um...
  • um...
  • ...
Sorry, I guess there's just not that much that I want for my birthday.  Last year's was so great - I can handle having a more laid back one this year.

How about a years supply of laundry soap?
Oooo or a Powells gift card (they are online for the rest of the world to enjoy).
Or a GC to Kohls for a new winter outfit (No clothes actually chosen by purchaser of GC).
How about an emergency tool kit to go in your 72 hr kit... (I have been thinking about this a lot since watching The Colony).
Love you!

I have a Kindle and it is really great especially when traveling. I can download a book in less than a minute. Downside is it is easy to spend money since you don't have to actually go anywhere. There are books that are free. Anything in the public domain is free which would include old classic books like Jane Austen. New books on Kindle are less expensive ($12 to $15) than buying the actual hardcover book. There are about 12 Betty Neels editions available for around $3 each. I wonder if you would like it. If you like the feel and smell and look of books on your shelf, you won't get that with the kindle. It is easy to read in bed though since you never have to turn a page, you can hold the Kindle and push the button one handed.

I do love the feel and tactile experience of regular books, but I can see the advantage of having a Kindle for travel. I'm always running out of reading material...last summer I was stuck looking for books in Forks, WA - anyone who has ever been there knows there aren't too many options - the grocery store, the drug store and the used book cart at the library.

The only problem with me getting a Kindle is that I'm afraid I'd run up a big bill for books...
